The Common Myna is brown with black hooded head and it has a patch behind the eye, bill and legs that is yellow in colour. In flight it shows large white wing patches and is a member of the starling family.
The Malay community names the Acridotheres tristis as Tiong Gembala Kerbau, literally 'buffalo shepherd' .. the Kelantanese named the same as Burung Leba.
The Common Myna is typically found in open woodland, cultivation and around habitation and it thrives in urban and suburban environments. Common Mynas are popular as cage birds for their singing and "speaking" abilities.
Although this is an adaptable species, its population has been decreasing significantly in Singapore and Malaysia.
